01 / The Brief

What was actually wrong.

One of Sri Lanka’s established travel agencies was taking bookings by hand across systems that did not talk to each other. The predictable result was double-booked tours, staff time lost to reconciliation, and revenue leaking out of a process nobody could see end to end.

How we approached it.

We replaced the whole booking lifecycle with one platform rather than patching the parts. Availability became something the system checks in real time instead of something a person remembers, itineraries became data the agency can edit itself, and the tourism the agency actually sells — wildlife, coast, hill country, heritage — was given the visual weight it needed to do the selling.

03 / The Build

What we built, and why.

01

The whole booking lifecycle, in one place

The platform handles complex tour packages, checks availability in real time, and carries a guest from browsing to paid booking without anyone re-entering anything. Tailor-made tours are built from the same catalogue, so a bespoke itinerary is a variation on the data rather than a document someone types out.

02

Built to load fast and be found

Server-side rendering gives the pages their search visibility, which matters for a business competing on destination queries. Images are optimised and lazily loaded, and state is kept tight, so a gallery-heavy travel site still opens quickly on a phone on hotel wifi.

03

Selling the place, not just the package

A travel site has to do something a booking engine does not — make someone want to go. Navigation was kept plain so nobody gets lost mid-decision, and the design system leans on a custom palette and typography that read as the tropics without getting in the way of actually booking.

Making of

Requirements were gathered up front, prototyped, and then tested in iterations rather than delivered in one pass — which is how the availability rules ended up matching the way the agency actually books rather than the way the process was described. Third-party payment gateways and email services were integrated so the workflow completes itself: a booking takes payment and confirms without staff touching it.
